North American
and Pelican Nebula are stunning.
Streakiness between the Central America and Florida sections
breathtaking. Just like an old B&W photo. Good detail in the
form of banding and curves in the Pelican. Black separation between NAN
and Pelican jet black. Many people at the Oregon Star Party were
astonished at the view. |

The dark
region that separates M42 and M43. M42,
the Orion Nebula, on a wonderful night like tonight, is stunning, with
green tinge fading to red-purple musky color. Complete arch easily
seen. The dark region takes all the magnification that can be mustered.
The almost 2 degree field takes in a region extending from the open
cluster NGC 1981 through NGC 1973/5/7 up past NGC 1980. |

me of the Flame nebula. Black streak with surrounding nebulosity
showing slight variation. More definite on the east side. A real dark

and grows in detail as time is spent observing. Bright star is part of

easy to find 2+deg east of Epsilon Scorpii. Oval tapering to a point on
one side. Some interesting stars involved. Ghostly dark rivers in the
area. TeleVue nebula filter enhances contrast and makes the dark nebula
stand out but doesn't add detail and dims stars considerably;
nonethless a useful tool. Sketch is a portion of the field ~ 1/2 deg in

embedded star. Fainter thinner river continues to the north and even
fainter to the northeast. Several dark nebulae to the east and west

dark area made visible by a subtly bright area to the west.NGC 2353
with two bright stars brackets the field. In same field as Seagull
Nebula including Gum 1 (the dark streak maybe visible rarely), NGC
2335, NGC 2343, NGC 2345. The Seagull's area to the southeast has a
sharply defined edge with a darker region adjoining. |
